Tails of Maggie & Katie: Living alone.... It is dark. Very dark

Living alone.... It is dark. Very dark

by B. A. Brown

I have difficulty breathing. A heavy weight is upon my chest. Heart attack? Pneumonia? Should I panic?

Experimentally, I wriggle my toes. Working. I move my fingers about.Working. No pain down left arm -- isn't that a sign of a heart attack?

I cannot see anything. No perception of light or dark.
>
A strange fluttery feel upon my face. Maybe some crawly-skin feeling about my neck

Perhaps a stroke? That would explain the blindness.

I try some of the large muscle groups.

I am possessed of all my limbs and digits.

But I still cannot move. Think~! Paralysis, what is paralysis a symptom of?
<
Again - maybe a stroke. Blindness, paralysis, How on earth will I summon
help?

Tails of Maggie & Katie: A Strange Occurrence

Tails of Maggie & Katie: A Strange Occurrence

by B. A. Brown

Hmmm...

We have a bag of peanut butter flavored dog biscuits.

We have a bag of beef basted dog biscuits.

Katie loves the beef-basted.

Maggie loves the peanut butter ones.

The bags are the same size. The peanut butter ones are actually smaller than the beef ones; as they are sold by weight, one presumes that there would be a few additional peanut butter ones in the bag.

Each dog gets ONE of her favorite kind in the morning, and ONE after dinner.

I usually keep the bags atop the washing machine.

Tails of Maggie & Katie: Need a couple of extra dogs?

Tails of Maggie & Katie: Need a couple of extra dogs?

by B. A. Brown

I have two I would be glad to ship to you. In a styrofoam box, with dry ice to ensure freshness.

Nice and early this a.m. - before the sun was up -- I woke to the ominous sounds of a dog barfing.

I turned on the light (I now know better than to just leap out of bed; Chester used to come and wake me up AFTER he had barfed, customarily right next to the bed. Apparently he felt it important that I know, but not important enough to tell me prior to the event.).

Nothing untoward in view.

I get up, turn on the hall light, look around. Nothing yet.

I cross to the lamp in the living room, turn it on.

Oh. There it is.

Someone has barfed on the couch. Not only that, but they have prepared the landing area prior to ejection. They have carefully removed the sheets to expose the bare upholstery first.

Tails of Maggie & Katie: Educational TV? pfui

Tails of Maggie & Katie: Educational TV? pfui

by B. A. Brown

The Eukanuba Dog Show was less than educational and, if you judge by the interest evinced by the canine members of my household, incredibly boring.

I made them watch. They kept nodding off.

I pointed with awe at the screen: "LOOK! That dog called 911 and saved her Mom's life!"

They raised their heads for a brief moment, and then dropped back down, soon snoring.

Dog Doogle Tails: The Great Pheromone Experiment

Dog Doogle Tails: The Great Pheromone Experiment

by B. A. Brown

Maggie has issues.

She has separation anxiety. She has a morbid fear of thunderstorms (and firecrackers). She is afraid of travelling in cars.

No, that is not quite right. Maggie refuses to travel in cars. Period. (and you might imagine the joys of driving from NY to Seattle with Maggie, but only if you have seen every horror movie ever made).

Maggie is afraid of strangers. She is afraid of my elderly parents, who have dutifully brought treats and cookies with them every time they visit.

Tails of Maggie & Katie: Some days, you just oughta have stood in bed

Tails of Maggie & Katie: Some days, you just oughta have stood in bed

by B. A. Brown

Some days, you just oughta have stood in bed!

It being a very nice warm day. I was inspired. Early this morning, went out, dug up weeds, carted weed stuff to pile I decided to start behind the garage. Managed about 8 x 2 foot area. Spread some flower seeds. Watered. Still have another 12 x 2 foot to go alongside the house, and then another three largish spots in the front. I will be circumspect, and only do a little bit at a time, lest I overdo the physical bit.

I ignore the blisters on my hand. I ignore the ache. It was worth it,right? OK, I shower. Comb my hair, sit down with a book. Wake up an hour or so later. Body refuses to move. All joints loudly protest. Muscles laugh in defiance when I ask them to start the walking process.

Damned flowers had better look good. And my plans for additional weeding & seeding are now somewhat reduced in scope.

Spay Day! Spay or Neuter Your Dog or Cat

What are the benefits of making sure your pet can't have puppies or kittens?

* peace of mind that puppies or kittens won't be euthanized in an animal shelter. Often good homes cannot be found for abandoned puppies and kittens

* don't add to overpopulation.

* be kind to your community. Abandoned unwanted animals may get into trash containers, defecate in the neighborhood and bite or attack.

* no mess and problems with stray dogs or cats coming around to visit your female animal in heat

* prevent possible future health problems such as ovarian, mammary and uterine cancers in female dogs or cats

Licensed veterinarians perform the spay or neuter operation while the pet is under anesthesia. Depending on your pet's age, size and health, he or she will stay at your veterinarian's office for a few hours or a few days. Early age spay/neuter is safe and effective, so talk with your veterinarian at your pet's first visit.

Spay Day USA is the last Tuesday of February, but events and activities take place throughout the month of February. The 14th annual Spay Day USA is Feb. 26, 2008.
